The sun had set, and the house grew dark. Neither of them turned on the lights. They half sat, half lay on the sofa, Adam slumped in Christoffer’s arms, straddling his lap, as Christoffer’s hands slid up and down his back and across his shoulders.

They were quiet, and Adam was grateful for the silence. He didn’t have words to express what he felt and thought. He focused on breathing, filling his lungs with the scent of Christoffer’s skin, and let his fingers tangle in the thick hair on the big man’s chest. He found a few gray ones, let them weave between his fingers, and wondered where he’d be in fifteen years… Who he’d be.

He couldn’t possibly leave now. His muscles were loose like he had just finished a whole day of practice. He felt so drained; he thought maybe what was keeping him alive was the warmth emanating from Christoffer’s body underneath him. He snuggled closer.

Christoffer turned his face, and his eyes shone in the darkness. He caressed Adam’s jaw and leaned in for another kiss. And another. They tasted of each other—Christoffer’s woodsy scent permeated Adam’s skin—and they smelled the same—of sex and come, traces of lube and hints of sweat. Adam strained closer still, deepening the kiss, and Christoffer hummed into his mouth. When their lips parted, Christoffer nuzzled Adam’s face, his beard tickling Adam’s sparse stubble.

“Are you hungry?” Christoffer whispered.

“No, but you must be.”

Adam felt the wide shoulders lift with a shrug. Another kiss.

“I don’t want to move,” Christoffer said.

Adam didn’t want to move either. Ever. He let his head fall onto Christoffer’s shoulder and nuzzled the crook of his neck.

It was bad. He was lost. Hopeless.

He should have left in the morning. But then he would have missed the perfect day. The loveliest day of his entire life. He could succumb so easily, let himself be swept up and spoiled by walks on the beach, cucumber gin coolers and even freaking boating trips. Yes, he was afraid. But fear was his safety harness, like a seat belt he wore in this out-of-control speeding vehicle that was his life. He’d been at this crossroad before. He’d closed his eyes, let his instincts take over and ended up alone and homeless. He should protect what was left of his heart. Others might gamble on relationships, but Adam had been told to go away one time too many.

Big hands drifted to his ass, massaged the muscles softly, and Adam sighed. The hands squeezed, clutching him closer to the warm body. What if this time it turned out okay? And if not? He felt like he was eating a supersize chocolate bar, telling himself he must leave the rest or he’d be sick to his stomach, but then he took another bite anyway because he couldn’t resist the taste. Stupid.

“Adam.” Christoffer spoke louder this time. “Stay the night. I’ll give you a ride to the city in the morning.”

In the morning. Monday. The weekend was almost over.

“Let me make you dinner,” Adam said.
